We had an overall exterior remodeling project of our 17-story condominium, Isola Bella, four years ago and hired Poma Construction to replace the defective existing aluminum handrails. Due to the extremely corrosive environment of South Padre Island, our previous aluminum railings were experiencing massive failures of the structural railing posts, causing disastrously unsafe conditions for unit owners and visitors. After reviewing several options, we decided to install a unique postless glass balcony railing system designed and engineered by Poma. The system, which was designed to be installed onto existing post-tension cable reinforced concrete balconies similar to ours, enabled Poma to install over 6,400 linear feet of glass railing requiring the drilling of over 7,500 anchors without damaging a single post-tensioned cable.
