We had the pleasure of working with POMA Metals to install their Infinity Rail System at the Sovereign Building in Atlanta, GA. This is a mixed-use commercial and residential high-rise building and the first in the state of Georgia to have this unique railing system installed. The field team was professional and efficient with their work and the project management team worked with us through every challenge to furnish a final product that provides the residents with beautiful, unobstructed views of Atlanta and the surrounding area.
Original construction was completed on the Sovereign Building in 2008, but due to some defects with the post-tension system, the residential balconies required a full renovation starting in 2019. The original traditional railing system was removed, and the team was tasked with installing a new system that worked with the existing reinforcement and also maintained the aesthetics of the building. The POMA Infinity Rail System allowed us to safely work around existing post-tension cables and gave us the flexibility to adjust the position of individual railing anchorages without having to worry about maintaining aligned joints on each floor. Poma provided customized templates for each floor prior to production to lay out pin locations and determine if they needed to be shifted in order to avoid a conflict in the slab. We had two different options for pins, which accommodated locations where reinforcement could not be avoided. One elevation of the building had balconies with a greater slope and a higher wind resistance requirement than the others, but we were able to utilize the same system and the engineering behind the pins allowed for consistency when there were uneven concrete slab edges.
Overall, the project was a success, and the residents were very happy with the final Infinity Rail System.
